PM3Bi Secure Login Guide
PM3Bi provides a secure way for users and service accounts to connect PM3 data to Power BI using a unique PM3Bi access key. This guide outlines the steps required to set up and authenticate a PM3Bi connection.
1. Account Setup
You have two options when creating an account for PM3Bi access:
-
Option 1: Service Account
-
Create a dedicated service account that exists solely for PM3Bi access.
-
This account will consume a PM3 license.
-
You can use a shared mailbox address if preferred.
-
-
Option 2: Standard User Account
-
Use a normal user account (any account type UR or higher) that already has a PM3 license.
-
This account can log in to both PM3 and PM3Bi.
-
2. Generate a PM3Bi Key
Once the account has been set up and can access PM3:
-
Log into PM3 using the credentials of the account created above.
-
Navigate to User Info > Settings.
-
Select Generate PM3Bi Key.
-
Copy the key immediately — you won’t be able to view or regenerate it later.
-
If lost, you’ll need to generate a new key.
-
3. Connect to Power BI
-
Open Power BI Desktop (or Power BI Service).
-
When prompted for credentials:
-
Enter the PM3 username in the Username field.
-
Enter the PM3Bi Key (generated in step 2) in the Password field.
-
-
You’ll then be securely authenticated, and your PM3 data connection will establish successfully.
4. Important Notes
-
Each PM3Bi key is unique to the user account that generated it.
-
If a user’s PM3 password is changed, the PM3Bi key remains valid.
-
If the user’s PM3 account is deactivated, their PM3Bi access will also be revoked.
-
Treat your PM3Bi key like a password — do not share it.
