Gantt Chart – Auto calculating Work Fields

The Configure View Settings (cog icon) now includes two options related to Auto Calculation:

1. AutoCalc Work Estimate from Task

• Automatically populates the Work Estimate column using the Task Allocation formula:

  • Work Estimate = Weekdays × Resources

• Assumes at least one resource is always allocated.

• Allows automation of Work fields without assigning specific resources.

2. AutoCalc ETC from Work Estimate

• Automatically populates the Work ETC (Estimate to Complete) field using:

  • Work ETC = Work Estimate – Work Done

• If not ticked, these fields must be updated manually.

Key Notes

• These two flags are independent – each works whether or not the other is enabled.

• Field updates appear only after auto-save completes:

  • Look for a small popup at the bottom of the screen.

  • The affected row may briefly change colour during this process.

Manual Edits and AutoCalc Interaction

• Even with AutoCalc enabled, users can manually edit the Work fields in the table.

• However, manual edits do not affect the Gantt chart task bars.

  • 🔁 AutoCalc is one-way only.

• If the Gantt task bar is later modified (e.g., Resource or Date changes), AutoCalc will:

  • Recalculate and overwrite any manual values in the:

    • Work Estimate

    • Work ETC

  • (Depending on which AutoCalc flags are set.)
