Gantt Chart – Auto calculating Work Fields

The Configure View Settings cog icon now has two options relating to Auto Calculation AutoCalc WorkEstimate from Task –will automatically populate the Work Estimate column with the Task Allocation value as defined above i.e. Weekdays * Resources. As above, it always assumes there is at least one resource. This means you can still automate the Work fields without having to allocate specific resources. AutoCalc ETC from Work Estimate – will automatically populate the Work ETC (Work Estimate to Complete) from the WorkEstimate using o Work ETC = Work Estimate – Work Done. If not ticked, these fields are only populated via manual data entry. These flags are independent i.e. they both work as expected whether or not the other is set. The fields update on screen only after the auto save completes. You can see auto save occurring by the small popup at bottom of screen, and the temporary colour change in the row. Even with AutoCalc on, a user can update the Work fields in the table. However, this will not affect the Gantt task bars. AutoCalc works one way. When the Gantt task bar is subsequently changed - Resource or dates - it will AutoCalc and overwrite any manually entered values in the Work Estimate and/or Work ETC (depending on which flags are set).
