Partitions Overview

Related groups of organisations or departments sometimes want to use PM3 together. They wish to combine both a degree of integration and a degree of separation so that

  1. Some Admin-level settings should be standardised across the whole group
  2. Some data can be extracted across all groups E.g. Reports on shared plans.
  3. But various plans and portfolios are private to each group, hidden even from Admins.
  4. Some plans can be shared across partitions.

If you do not need to use this facility, then its existence will be transparent, and you need do nothing different. The facility is turned on by creating a new Partition.

All portfolios and all People are in the Initial Partition.

If a person is in more than one partition, then a partition dropdown is always visible at the top right of all PM3 pages. From this dropdown, the person can choose what partition he is working in. You can only work in one partition at a time, but it is easy to change partition.

When you work in a partition you see only portfolios in that partition and as an Admin, you see only people in that partition.
